Kauai

So on the anniversary of my first Kauai trip, I took my second Kauai trip. This time there were three of us. We did some of the same things as the first time, but we also added a few things.

Our first stop on Saturday was breakfast. We ate at Kalaheo Coffee House and Cafe, which I highly recommend. Then we headed up to Waimea Canyon (the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific"). Unfortunately it was cloudy...which meant the entire canyon was filled with a giant cloud. Yeah, so it was not so scenic. Fortunately, a little further down the mountains we saw some gorgeous scenery. We had a mini photo shoot. I think this picture of the A Girls (Amie and Ashley) is so cute.

Then we went to Glass Beach. Basically it's a random beach in an industrial area that is covered in tiny pieces of sea glass. Here's an up-close view.

A view of the beach. Covered in sea glass! After the beach, we checked in at our hotel in Kapaa and hit the pool. We ended the night at Oasis (in the Waipouli Resort) which was a little overpriced but good. The food was made from almost all local ingredients, which I love!

Sunday we headed on an eight mile hike (round trip) to Hanikapi'ai Falls. The Falls are 300 feet high. It was gorgeous, and definitely worth the hike. Unfortunately, as we were hiking back (approx. mile 5), it started to rain. Typhoon. Monsoon season. Torrential downpour. The last mile of the trail had two huge waterfalls that appeared out of nowhere, plus the trail turned into a stream. Then we had to wait in the car for two hours because there was a rushing stream on the road (about 18 inches deep). In spite of that, the hike was still awesome. That night we were incredibly hungry, so we went to a yummy Mexican Restaurant in Kapaa called Monicos.

Monday was a calm day compared to Sunday. We did a little more sightseeing. Our first stop was the Kilauea Lighthouse. Which unfortunately was closed due to renovations, but it was still a pretty sight.

Next we headed back to Kapaa for lunch at Bubba's Burgers. Then we stopped at two waterfalls as well. The first was Opeaka Falls, then Wailua Falls (pictured below).

We hung out at a nice beach, and then I went to Hanepepe Town. It's a cute little town full of art galleries and boutiques. The A Team was out on a power hang-gliding tour, which they loved.
